FAMILY firm RW Bell Electrical is counting down to its 70th anniversary by unveiling a new branch in Aviemore.

The Perthshire business, which can trace its roots back to 1947, has secured premises on the village’s Dalfaber Industrial Estate to handle their growing volume of work along the A9 corridor.

Their new base, providing a comprehensive and enhanced range of electrical services for the domestic and commercial market in Strathspey and Badenoch, opens in December, with director Alan Smith at the helm of the local operation.

RW Bell Electrical currently provides the full gamut of electrical services to clients across the country from its historic base in Pitlochry.

Now, Aviemore has been identified as a key area for rolling out business development between Dalwhinnie and Inverness.

RW Bell Electrical has been in demand in the region for many years, carrying out work on Aviemore’s Santa Claus Land back in the 1970s. More recently, the firm has worked on electrical projects at The Boat of Garten Hotel and also the popular Osprey Centre.

The business was created after WW2 by decorated flying ace Robbie “Tinkle” Bell and nowadays employs 50 staff, with up to eight new jobs being created, including apprenticeships further down the line.

Mr Smith, a retained fire-fighter and Watch Manager in charge of Pitlochry Fire Station who joined the electrical firm as an apprentice more than 30 years ago, said: “We are delighted to have secured a base in Aviemore from which to service an area where demand for our services has been growing. We firmly believe in becoming a part of the local community.

“We are a long-established business and we pride ourselves on carrying out efficient and cost-effective electrical works, whether for major commercial customers or private householders.

“Much of our work comes through repeat business from existing clients and referrals, and our reputation for customer service is fiercely protected.

“The area around Aviemore has witnessed significant development in recent years and there is still enormous scope for further expansion.”
